On August 15, Forreston State Bank hosted its second annual “Ag Summit” event, for the Bank’s agriculture customers and other guests. More than 140 people attended the event, which was held at Barnacopia in Polo. After a catered dinner, guests heard an informative and engaging presentation by Eric Snodgrass from the Department of Atmospheric Studies at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Dr. Elwynn Taylor, Iowa State Climatologist, was the featured speaker at a crop weather outlook and market insight meeting held at the Barnacopia, Polo, IL. Dr. Taylor spoke on the USDA crop report, US drought index, aridity index, and estimated crop yields. Also speaking was commodity broker, Brent Sandahl, who provided attendees with insight into possible markets highs and lows for the coming year.
Ed Vock, Senior Vice-President with Forreston State Bank, stated the summit was planned by the bank because the success of the agricultural sector is important to the local community. Providing resources like Dr. Taylor and Mr. Sandahl can help farmers with challenging markets or weather.
